The Greatest Jet Fighter In The History of Military Aviation
This is an excellent book on the F-4. Lots of technical info and lots of pictures of the F-4 in Vietnam. This book covers the F-4E and the last chapter covers the F-4G Wild Weasel in Desert Storm. The Phantom is the all time greatest jet fighter the United States military ever had. I also reccomend "Spirit In The Skies" by Jon Lake.

One of the best books on the F-4 I have ever read.
I received this book last year as a gift for Christmas. It was very informative and it taught me several things I didn't know. It has some great photos and drawings. I liked the color section. It has some good photos. Well, after reading it, I would recommend this book to ANY F-4 enthusiast!

Awesome book about a Giant Shark
I am glad that I had brought this book because it also comes with a replica tooth of a giant whale-sized shark that lived 65 million years ago the prehistoric great white shark or megalodon I loved the tooth but bad news was that my replica of a prehistoric great white shark got broken.

A very informative, fun book for the young paleontologist!
This book is informative and fun with up-to-date information on Megalodon that is easy to understand. The kit allows kids to excavate their own Meg tooth, a replica, causing first-hand appreciation of this great creature that lived 25-2 million years ago!

More Than One Angel
Published in Paperback by WinePress Publishing (December, 1999)
Author: Billie Hughes Locke
Average review score:

An entertaining and engaging mix of pathos and humour
Drawing on her life experiences, which range from a poverty stricken childhood in a dysfunctional family to a mature woman who has through hard work and determination achieved a comfortable lifestyle, Billie Hughes Locke has woven a rich story that is at times heart wrenching, poignant, and endearingly funny. A compassionate and spiritual person, Billie has an amazing ability to find a positive lesson in all situations, no matter how dire. This is a lovingly constructed story that will leave a lasting memory on the reader. Having known Billie for sixteen years, I know that it is also an honest and open account of her life.

Glowing through adversity
This is an exceptionally well written book about the survival of a child growing up in a dysfunctional family. The easy flow of humor, sorrow, and spiritual growth was intriguing. Through the many mistakes as a teenage mother she always learned to pick up, handle her responsibility and go on. The secret is in the asking.

Levine A True Master
In my opinion, Philip Levine is perhaps the most honest poet writing in America today. As a master's candidate in an English department, I've endured much of the post-modern fluff that dominates modern poetry. In Levine's work, you won't find the typical introspective ramblings of the depressed modern poet. Levine approaches life in clear and distinct terms. There are images in these poems with ideas showing right through. Levine doesn't resort to petty academic parlor tricks to describe the disappearence of self--check out "Silent in America" for a portrait of a man with a voice so powerful that he cannot even use it.

Of prosody, Levine is also a master. These are not your basic "skinny prose" modern free verse poems. One will find design here with artfully buried rhymes and off rhymes. Levine also experiments quite successfully with both meter and syllabic verse. The amazine thing, however, is that unless you really pay attention to the work, you miss these things. Levine hypnotizes with his ideas and phrasing and clear, sharp images.

Here are the voices of the lost; here are the voices of the downtrodden. Levine has stepped away from academic games and has become a voice of the American poor in the Whitman tradition. As an epigraph in _Selected Poems_ reads, "Vivas for those who have failed."

Levine has had a great influence on me and my work. Anyone writing poetry should check out Levine's work. I'd recommend _What Work Is_ also. In my opinion, it's his best book.

Fantastic American poetry collection
Philip Levine¹s Collected Works is an amazing biography of a life. Spanning a so-far-incomplete life, we can follow Levine¹s progress of maturation. While the beginning poems are strong, it is the middle and end pieces that were the most startling, poems about the working class and later his son. His ability to mix narration and the more typical elements of poetry is extraordinary. Compare the first and last sentences of ³One For The Rose²: ³Three weeks ago I went back / to the same street corner where / 27 years before I took a bus for Akron, / Ohio, but now there was only a blank space / with a few concrete building blocks / scattered among the beer cans², ³Instead I was born / in the wrong year and in the wrong place, / and I made my way so slowly and badly / that I remember every single turn, / and each one smells like an overblown rose, / yellow, American, beautiful, and true.² Levine writes American poetry in the American diction better than anyone since Whitman or Sandburg. His language is conservative and seems simple at first, but when the poem blossoms we are all the more surprised and excited because of it. This book is a gem to read and contains a story, making it as hard to put down as your favorite novel.

Charming
This is my 22 month old's favorite book (she calls it "Colour Babies"), and it's still fun to read after many reading sessions. The stories and illustrations show a real slice-of-life that fascinates toddlers.

Outstanding Children's Book - Great fun.
My daughter (now four) loved this book when she received it. Now my two-year old son loves it. We refer to it as "Bath water's hot" since that is the first story. The stories capture my children's interest in a soft, friendly way. Much like a warm, bed-time hug. Both children seem to associate with the characters. Best of all, you can read the stories again and again and not want to scream. Many thanks to Ms. Hughes.

Original Aston-Martin DB4/5/6

Original Aston Martin DB4/5/6
This book is essential for anyone performing a restoration on or buying a DB4-6. The author is extremely knowledgable, having owned a number of Astons including some real clunkers. Not only does he know what to look for in terms of originality but his knowledge of what can go wrong makes this book a buyers guide in addition to an aid to restoration.

Definitive guide for restoration
As usual in the "Original" serie, the author goes through every possible detail of the various cars, covering the models: DB4, GT, Zagato (including the Sanction II re-edition), DB5 and DB6, with the Convertible, Volante and Vantage variations, plus the Estate conversions and the Lagonda Rapide (? not sure about the name) which shared the same chassis with the DB serie.

The only proper definition for the book is ANAL... it is! every little aspect, down to the correct colors for the distribution wires, is covered. That's why is the DEFINITIVE guide if you intend to buy a DB and have it restored to the showroom conditions, or check if what you're about to buy is what's claimed to be.

now, if the author would kindly give me a DB4 Series I as a present for this excellent review, I'd be extremely grateful! :-)

Over Lord: General Pete Quesada and the Triumph of Tactical Air Power in World War II
Published in Hardcover by Free Press (August, 1995)

He was also the creator of Dulles Air Port & L'Enfant Plaza
I knew the General. In addition to his achievements in WW II, he devoloped the concept of an airport where incoming and out going passengers moved on separate floors (Dulles)With David Rockefeller they created the magnificent L'Enfant Plaza in Wash.D.C. His stories of growing up in Washington could be another book, not to mention his civilian achievements in Washington. The story of his flying Ike behind German lines after the D day invasion in a 2 seat P 51 to prove his point over German positions (much to the chagrin of Gen. Bradley) is one of my favorites. He had a picture in his office of he and Tooey Spaatz from their early days in "Jennies" with oil all over their faces except where their goggles were. Right out of "Dawn Patrol". This book is long over due.

A history lesson that we didn't learn too well.
This book is easy to get into and very informative. The story of Gen. Pete Quesada and the tactical air arm in the European Theater of Operations in WW II is something that anyone interested in military history should read. This aspect of the war is often overlooked, which should not be the case. The working together of ground and tactical air assets should be a top priority for military planners as well as anyone connected with the ground troops.

Perfume from Provence

Authors: Lady Fortesque, Patricia Hughes, and Lady Fortescue
Average review score:

Charming is the only word
This is a pleasurable, surprising, sunshine-filled, leisurely, and -- dare I say it again -- charming book. It's a little dated, but retains its wonderful capacity to evoke a time and place filled with the sights, scents, and sounds of stone masons, oil presses, village fetes, kitchen knives, bursting gardens, market days, voluble peasants, and one indomitable Fiat.

Charming--leaves you homesick for Provence
This is a charming and thoroughly engaging book. Lady Winifred describes the trials and tribulations of an English couple who move to Provence in the 30s. Her descriptions of the people and the area are so vivid that by the end of the book you feel as if you, too, live in Provence. When I finished the book, I felt homesick and wanted to return as soon as possible!

A great book!
The first time I read this book, I was in grade 7 or 8, and I loved it. I'm going to be graduating from High School this year, and I still love it. I must have read it about 30 times. In this sequel to Sandwriter, a young princess must travel to a strange land to learn the secrets of a mysterious old woman. The descriptions of the land provide ample subject matter with which you can imagine anything, and the characters are realistic and easy to identify with.

An astounding sequel
Who can complain about this book? I can't say anything about it, it's just too good. Only read it. If you're looking for a book, read it. But read Sandwriter first. It's better, but this is a super runner-up.
